From the beginning, my shop has been all about fun! From the moment a customer walks in the door, a big hello…and a friendly smile sets the tone for a day of fun, demos, make-and-takes, playing with fabric, and the list goes on! Your visit isn’t complete without a demo and a free make-and-take.
I originally started in 2001, in an 800-sq. ft. shop with a tiny classroom and 500 bolts of fabric. After two years, an opportunity to move to a 1600-sq. ft. shop appeared and I was there! That lasted for four years and then when a fellow merchant walked in and asked me to buy their building, after my initial shock I realized maybe, just maybe, I could do this along with the help of the local bank. So today, I own a 3000-sq. ft. building with 4000 bolts of fabric, lots and lots of samples and every notion needed for today’s savvy quilter.
Many years ago, I studied Art and now along with owning the shop, I have been fortunate to design fabric for Fabri-Quilt and Paintbrush Studio. My eighth and ninth lines will be coming out in 2013. I also enjoy designing patterns and writing books available through Checker Distributors. My customers love getting to see me in Fons and Porter Magazine and look forward to me being on their show in January 2013.
The shop is known for its samples! Over 150 quilts hang on the walls, grace the tables and drape over the quilt racks. Along with friendly service we have a wonderful eclectic fabric inventory including beautiful batiks, and batik rayons, flannels, whimsical prints, lots of panels, children’s and novelty, oriental and patriotic. Florals are a love of mine, and we carry them from all the best companies. One of the unique items we carry is dolls. We have one of the largest selections of doll patterns and supplies in the state, if not the nation. I carry all the top designers and new to the scene creations: Barbara Willis, Patty Culea, , Katkins and Eleanor Peace Bailey. A shoppers heaven!
My Quilters are a fun group! We have been hosting cruises with Bunny Nelson of Travel Connection and over 125 quilters traveled with us to the Eastern Caribbean (check out our crazy fun pictures!) and quilted, dined, danced, shopped, traveled and played for seven delightful days! We have a grand cruise planned to Alaska in September 2013 and I hope you’ll join us! Sewing machines are brought on board and every luxury is provided along with great classes and projects – Joan Shay of Petal Play and I will be the teachers.
I am so excited to be a part of FABSHOP! As you can see, I needed even more ideas to keep my quilters entertained and look forward to all the exciting programs and events! Thanks to Laurie and her great staff…see you soon in the shop or online!
